We hold indoor meetings from 10.30am to 12.30pm in the Lounge at the Amersham Community Centre in Chiltern Ave, Amersham new town, HP6 5AH, click here for a map. Free parking is available at weekends in the nearby Council Offices car park to the south of the Centre on the south side of King George V Road.
You are very welcome to join in our photographic activities. Come to our informal morning meetings that usually reflect the photographic work we are doing in the Chilterns and see how you like our non-camera club style. We welcome newcomers and hope that you will enjoy the social side of our meetings as much as the pictures you see. Contact Barry Hunt for more information: 01494 713345 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Saturday 17 March 2018 "Ground-breaking laser photography” is the intriguing title of the next PhotoGroup indoor meeting at the Amersham Community Centre. Our speaker is Mark King, an Amersham-based professional photographer from New Zealand.
His scene-setting account includes award-winning examples of his minimal, high-key landscapes and graphic architectural photography. Mark’s interest in ‘line’ as a compositional element later inspired him to develop a ground-breaking approach to illustrating the path of HS2 using state-of-the-art lasers. “This unique technique proved several experts in the field wrong”, he comments. Mark concludes his talk by looking at another topical project entitled ‘Fractured Kingdom’, which was featured in Creative Review’s 2016 Photography Annual.
There will be an on-the-door charge of £3 for this meeting to cover Mark’s fee. We hope to repeat the very good attendance for the January meeting, so be sure to arrive early for a prompt 10:30 am start.
Saturday 20 October 2018 PhotoGroup AGM. After the formalities of the AGM, we are delighted to welcome Chris Howe. As a PhotoGroup member he specialises in striking landscape images. In fact he won the Landscape Photographer of the Year (subsection) Network Rail award in 2010 and Commended in 2009. Chris supplied many of the photos for the Chiltern Society's 'North Chiltern Trail' book. He also undertakes photo projects for the Campaign to Protect Rural England in Hertfordshire. Several of North Chilterns albums in our photo archive were contributed by Chris.
In presenting the background to his photography, Chris will explain how he tackled the North Chiltern Trail project, including examples of his post-processing approach (he favours Lightroom). Some illustrated examples will include a few of his favourite local shots, many of which have appeared in village calendars, and images from elsewhere. It all promises to be an entertaining and instructive event.
